A large overgrown tree in the middle of these homeowners' backyard makes this space unusable. Matt and his team Crash into the yard like a Texas stampede to clear out the space and start anew. First up, an extra-large cedar pergola skirted by a curvy deck brings back major style and function to this neglected yard. The homeowners' love of outdoor cooking inspires Matt to roll in a massive Texas style smoker framed by arbors defining a more upscale entrance to the space. Additional entertaining space comes in the form of a new decomposed flagstone patio and bench seating made from pavers with a fire pit as a focal point. The landscaping intervention finishes off with lush native Texas grasses, annual plants for color and an edible container garden outlining the yard.
A large, nondescript backyard is transformed into a private Mexican Riviera-themed space with areas to play and to entertain. Overgrown trees and plants are trimmed back to make room for a large flagstone patio with a rock-faced kitchen island. The focal point of the yard becomes a large ledge fall water feature created from carved concrete. The addition of a bench made from fireplace flues and a custom fire pit add to the feel of rela in a rustic resort. A homemade tree house also gets a makeover to create a retreat that's both family and kid-friendly.

A homeowner that's struggling with a backyard that's fallen into ruin accepts Matt Blashaw's offer to transform it with defined features. Taking a cue from the homeowner's eclectic style, Matt replaces a patchy lawn, rickety shade structure, and crumbling concrete pond with a system of curved floating redwood decks. Together, Matt and the homeowners build a new gate with "windows" that give the fence line a sleek, modern look. They pour a concrete garden wall that is treated to make it look like wood. A pergola with privacy screens creates a new area for seating. An old shed gets a facelift. And in the center of the yard, Matt and the homeowners place a DIY concrete and metal fire table, which highlights an inviting entertainment space.
